DTRPG has decided that all products must fall into one of three categories. Hand Crafted, 3rd Party Tool Generated, or AI-Generated.
This is, of course, utter rubbish. If you just wrote something, it would be none of the above.
I am not convinced that these guidelines will help anyone. There probably will be some people who will choose to filter only on hand crafted, but I doubt if it will have much impact one way or another.
In 6 months to a year, I can imagine you will see AI art in the first WotC books, Free League, or Chaosium.
I guess your views on AI art will depend on whether you are depending on selling your own art. If you are, then AI art is probably a threat.
I don’t commission art, but I do buy stock art and use public domain art. Will AI art make any difference to me? I don’t think so. I have been reducing the amount of art I use in the past year. It doesn’t add any real value, not to what I do.
Maps in adventures add value. If I created a monster book or setting, that would be different. But, I am not really the kind of creative that creates monster books or settings.
I think this could be one of those “Interesting Times”.
