Designer Diary: Kickstarter 1 week in.

I am one week into this Kickstarter and I am very happy with the process so far.

I do not intend to spend any money on advertising this time around. What I have done is helped out other people in the past by promoting their KS campaigns, and this time around they have mentioned my campaign in their email newsletters.

In addition, I have mentioned it in my own emails, and the drivethrurpg email.

My listed goal was $100 (or it was at the time of launching, exchange rates have shifted somewhat since then). Although I spend less than $50 on the adventure I knew that I won’t get all the pledged money because there are card fees and platform fees to pay.

At about $150 I can recoup my costs and commission a new cover for my next project.

My long-term aim is to earn a net $2000+ per adventure launched on KS. To achieve that I am going to have to advertise. So far so good.

One of the amusing things is the sheer number of people that have contacted me wanting to advertise my campaign. The cheapest was $15 and the most expensive $9000. It seems like there is an entire industry built up around promoting a successful KS.

Needless to say, I will not be spending $9000 any time soon.
