Just Enough Essential Parts to Solo

This is an idea that has been bubbling around my head all summer.

The idea is that I publish solo adventures, each with just a simple oracle, a muse and one or two solo tools, tips, or techniques, and then an adventure to play to practice them.

The first one is Kane’s Wood, and published today, (21st Oct 2026), and it has a basic Yes/No Oracle, and then expands on different types of Muse. It then has a worked example, and small dungeon you can have a go at yourself, and then a three map adventure for when you know what you are doing.

I do not normally list titles as Pay What You Want, but I am being a bit experimental this time and there are three forces at play (at least) with these titles.

Firstly, all of the solo rules, tools, ideas, and techniques are things I have used before; from that perspective, I am not selling anything new.

Secondly, all the maps are procedurally generated using Wataboi’s free-to-use generators.

Third, the adventure is structured as an introduction, three maps, two linking blocks of text, and a conclusion. Together, they barely reach 500 words of original text.

The entire zine may be 15+ pages, but there is a limit to how much one can charge for things we didn’t create ourselves.

Pay What You Want is a good introductory price, if I want to bring more people into solo play. It also matches the price of the original RND zines that inspired this idea.

The business model will have to be, make many of these and make them good enough that people what to have them all, and feel they are worth paying for.

So that is what I am going for.
